The name "ro•sham•bo" is a reference to the nostalgic game we all grew up playing... most people know the game as “rock, paper, scissors,” but we grew up calling it ro•sham•bo! It also pays tribute to our autism support mission: special education teachers have told us that playing ro•sham•bo with children with autism can be a valuable teaching tool when they need a quiet, calming, and personal interaction with a teacher. We have autism in our family, so this has been and always will be a pillar of our business.
Our durable sunglasses block 100% of UVA/B/C rays and are Italian made and assembled in the United States. Our flexible, durable material is soft and free of all the nasty stuff (BPA, phthalate, lead, latex), and specially designed for baby's use and abuse. We even mold our logos into the design to avoid unnecessary paint.
Watch our video below to check out how these specially designed bendable frames hold up!
Paediatric optometrists warn that most of the lifetime ultraviolet (UV) damage done to a person’s eyes occurs during childhood and the risk for retinal damage from the sun’s rays is greatest in children less than 10 years old. However, the consequences usually do not become apparent until well after they are adults.
This is because eye damage due to UV exposure accumulates over a lifetime and the cells of the lens of the eye cannot repair themselves and are never naturally replaced. We did not have the knowledge that we do today of the harmful affects of UV radiation on our eyes. Just as sun exposure to the skin can be cumulative and cause problems later in life, so can UV exposure to the eyes.
UV radiation has now been linked to the formation of cataracts, which is a clouding of the crystalline lens within the eye. It also can cause growths on the white part of the eye, which are seen frequently in surfers and others who spend a lot of time in the sun, called Pingueculas and Pterygiums.
We now feel that there is evidence that UV exposure can increase the risk of damage to retina (the inner layer of the eye) called macular degeneration, later in life.
We hate when things break! We are so confident that our Italian-made sunglasses can withstand your baby that we offer a full damage replacement guarantee if your ro•sham•bo baby frames break or get damaged in the first year of their use (in the course of normal, intended & expected use).We also hate when lenses get lost or scratched! If twisted at an awkward angle, it is possible for lenses to pop out of your shades. Have no fear! The lens is shatter resistant and small parts tested, so it is still safe for baby on its own. It is also extremely easy to pop back in to place (watch our videos).
Safety and quality of our Italian made sunglasses is our #1 concern here at ro•sham•bo baby. We have designed our shades and carrying case with baby in mind, especially baby’s desire to put them in their mouth! Our shades and our case have been laboratory certified as BPA free, lead free, latex free, heavy metal free, among many other nasty things! They are also in compliance with the U.S. federal hazardous substances act 16 cfr 1501 for small parts (fancy way of saying there are no bad chemicals and no small parts that might fall off and be a choking hazard for your little one!). All of our lenses are tested by our manufacturer and an independent lab to make sure they are compliant with all US, EU and other international UV standards to block 100% UVA/B/C rays. We also limit the paint in our product that might chip off in baby’s mouth by molding in our logos to the sides. Want proof of this science mumbo jumbo? Us too, so here’s the most recent lab results.
All ro•sham•bo baby sunglasses are polarized. Polarized lenses reduce glare and eye strain, while still delivering 100% UVA/B/C protection. All of our lenses are tested by our manufacturer and an independent lab to make sure they are compliant with all US, EU and other international UV standards to block 100% UVA/B/C rays. Tri Acetate Cellulose (TAC) polarized lenses feature a new lens technology formulated for superior visual and polarization clarity. They have a scratch coating and block 100% harmful UV rays up to 400 nanometers. These lenses are very lightweight and highly impact resistant. Each batch of our polarized TAC lenses are also tested for effectiveness and were specifically chosen due to their lightweight design and high performance for all of your active families!
All ro•sham•bo baby sunglasses lenses are Category 3 in terms of darkness, which falls into line with the European standard for UV protective sunglasses and also meet regulated United States safety standards. Sunglasses with category 3 lenses provide a high level of sun glare reduction and good level of UV protection against strong sun brightness and light reflected off of water or snow. All of our sunglasses also have polarized lenses, which provides 100% protection against UVA, UVB and UVC rays.
Screen time happens...do something about it with our toddler blue light glasses!Experts warn that blue light rays from electronic devices can cause serious damage to eyes and even screw up your child's sleep patterns. Just as your child learns in school, sunlight is made up of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet light. When combined, it becomes the white light we see. Each of these colors has a different energy and wavelength. Red light rays have longer wavelengths and less energy, where on the other end, blue light rays have shorter wavelengths (between 380 - 500 nm) and more energy.
There are two types of blue light.
Natural blue light comes from the sun. Our body uses blue light from the sun to regulate our natural circadian rhythm (sleep and wake cycles), boost alertness, elevate your mood, and improve your overall feeling of wellbeing.
Artificial blue light comes from digital screens like TVs, computers, smart phones, iPads, fluorescent and LED lights.
Because blue light waves are one of the shortest, strongest energy wavelengths in visible light spectrum, they can penetrate your eye easily and directly reach the retina.
Our eyes do not have enough natural filters to protect against artificial blue light, especially in children.
This can cause eye strain, physical and mental fatigue, headaches, dry eyes, and sleeplessness if you use electronic devices for long periods of time or sit in front of a computer all day.
Some sources of artificial blue light:
Fluorescent & LED light
Flat screen LED televisions
Computer monitors & laptops
Smart phones & tablets / iPads
Other electronic devices
Here are some things you can do to help reduce your blue light exposure:Invest in AVN lenses, which are also known as blue light blocking glasses.
These are available in different sizes: toddler, junior.
These blue light lenses will help protect your eyes and reduce the amount of harmful blue light rays that reach your retina.
When staring at a digital screen, blink more often.
Take frequent breaks from staring at electronic devices, and don’t hold too close to your eyes for long periods of time.
Clean your screen. A smudge-free, dust-free screen helps reduce glare.
Change your digital device background colors from bright white to warmer colors to reduce eye strain.

Ro•Sham•Bo baby sunglasses are proudly made in Italy and assembled in the United States. They are BPA, phthalate, lead & latex free, and are small parts tested as safe for babies! The frames are a soft and safe material designed for little hands and faces. Plus, they are virtually unbreakable. These polarized sunnies offer 100% UVA/B/C protection and are available in 3 sizes from baby through junior so the whole family can match!
Putting in your new lenses is easy! First pop out your old lenses by pushing from the back of the lens and bend the frames a little if needed. Then to put in your new lenses, start from the front outer edge by the temple and work your way towards the bridge of your glasses. You can stretch the frames a little to pop them in.
Our frames are slightly malleable in nature, so stretching can occur if bent for prolonged periods. You can easily bend the bridge, arms and ear pieces to adjust your fit to be a little tighter or looser. Don't worry about bending the shades any way that makes them a better fit, that's part of the value of them, you can't hurt them!
Our shades strap and ear adjuster kit comes with two options to get the perfect fit for your child’s sunglasses! The head strap and ear adjusters are both made with a comfy, stretchy, light, and easily detachable food grade clear silicone material that is perfect for baby, toddler and junior size sunglasses and glasses frames.
The head strap will help keep sunglasses and prescription glasses on your child’s face to prevent losing them or sliding off during playtime. Our kids' ear adjuster pieces help create a better fit on infants or toddlers growing into a larger size.
Here is our trick! We recommend heating the frames in really hot water for a few minutes, then removing them and bending them back into the appropriate shape while the material is a bit more pliable and letting them cool that way. To bend them back in shape, set the shades on a flat surface like a table or counter: you will probably notice one side or the other is raised slightly off the table while the other is resting on it. All you have to do is give them a little bend back until they sit flat on the surface. Super easy! If that is not enough to make them comfortably wearable, please let us know!
YES. They are all made of the same exact material with the same safety standards. They are all injected with a dyed color so no bleaching is done and logos are molded onto the frames, etc
Screen Time Blue Light Blocking glasses, also known as Anti-Visual Noise (AVN) glasses, block harmful blue light rays caused by electronic screens. They protect the eyes from these harmful rays and reduce eye strain, headaches, migraines, tired eyes, and stress on your vision.
What’s better than a great looking pair of sunglasses? Two words: recycled sunglasses. Roshambo is proud to be working towards manufacturing 100% of our frames out of recycled materials. Did you know that in 2022 over 30,000 pairs of Roshambo frames were made with recycled material? That's over 750 pounds of waste reused to make our flexible frames! By recycling unused material into our frames, it helps to keep it out of our oceans and landfills. And it turns out that sunglasses are an ideal use for recycled materials, as they require only small pieces.
The process is pretty amazing and is a testament to our Italian manufacturers' mission to create a circular economy! The factory is able to separate the scraps made after molding our frames, and then chip them into pellets that can again be melted down and made into new flexible frames. So even though you may not see it, the rainbow of Roshambo frames is in every pair! We are thankful that we can make a difference, one frame at a time.
As a family with a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder, we have lost count of the number of items that have been broken in a melt down, or ‘just because’ over the years. So Roshambo Sunglasses for kids have been a life saver. They are fun, available in loads of colours, offer great protection from the sunlight and most importantly unbreakable! If your child likes to bend, throw (often out the window - don't ask!), drop or chew their items, then these sunglasses will last a lot longer than any other pair you have purchased in the past.
